ShelbyOne

ShelbyOne is the five-year initiative of the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. This bold five-year program will unite all of our county’s corporate and public leaders to guide and stimulate economic and community development throughout Shelby County.

The mission of ShelbyOne is for Shelby County to be the economic hub and governmental leader in Central Alabama by the year 2016. Through collaborative partnerships, public and private sector leaders will work together to provide excellence in education, offer quality employment, retain existing business, attract new business and development, and enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Shelby County.

There are four key components of the initiatives of the ShelbyOne:

• BUSINESS SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
  
  Strong and innovative support for existing business and industry is an essential component of Shelby County’s economic and community development strategy. Over the next five years, we must identify specific retail and commercial target business sectors compatible with those businesses that currently exist in the greater Shelby County area. This dynamic program will seek to channel all of our area’s current marketing efforts and focus on expanding Shelby County’s exposure to small and retail business prospects and to consumers who will want to visit our county for dining, shopping and entertainment.
  
  
• COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
  
  Unified leadership is a key element in the future success of our area. Only the depth and strength of our corporate and community leadership will allow the potential of Shelby County to grow and prosper. Leaders of business and industry, elected officials, college and university officials all working together can move Shelby County forward. The community also possesses a wealth of untapped leadership potential in its “young professional” population who need and deserve a chance to “make their mark” in our community. This five-year strategic plan will maximize the ability of Shelby County’s leaders to propel this community forward.
  
  
• GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
  
  For all of Shelby County to thrive, we must establish a countywide initiative. The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, together with the area’s corporate leadership and all of our local elected officials, must establish a collaborative partnership to address the critical challenges and opportunities confronting our county and speak with “one voice” in the years ahead. Assisting existing businesses to grow and prosper, recruiting new targeted small and retail businesses, developing our transportation infrastructure and supporting the county’s education partners are vital to Shelby County’s economic well-being.
  
  
• MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
  
  If we are to speak with “one voice”, Shelby County must develop and implement a dynamic marketing plan to showcase the entire county. One of the guiding principles of this five-year strategic plan is to collaborate with all of our private and public sector leaders to ensure that all have ownership of this countywide program. The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce must also communicate regularly with our “Shareholders” to keep them informed of the progress of this visionary program to ensure every corporate, municipal and individual investor of the excellent stewardship of their funds.
